PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Treatment for Hair Loss
The Personal Enhancement Center, led by Dr. Christopher P. Godek and Dr. Christina Pasick, is proud to offer both women and men an innovative treatment for hair loss that does not require major surgery or long recovery periods. Platelet-rich plasma therapy, commonly referred to as “PRP,” is an advanced hair restoration method that harnesses the regenerative powers of natural blood components to help dormant hair follicles begin to grow again. Our practice utilizes the state-of-the-art Regenlab® USA PRP Hair Restoration technique, which can help many patients experiencing areas of thinning hair gradually increase hair growth and thickness with exceptional results.
What Are the Benefits of PRP Therapy for Hair Restoration?
PRP therapy offers ideal candidates an array of advantages over more invasive hair restoration techniques, including:
- The treatment can be effective for both women and men experiencing pattern baldness and areas of thinning hair
- New hair growth can be stimulated and further hair loss can be prevented for many patients
- Weakened hair can be strengthened
- Hair can appear thicker and fuller
- The treatment does not involve surgery, “hair plugs,” or other more invasive techniques
During your consultation, we can evaluate your concerns and help you determine whether PRP therapy for hair restoration is the right option for your needs and goals.
What Does the PRP Hair Restoration Treatment Involve?
PRP treatment for hair restoration essentially involves three steps:
Blood Draw
A small amount of blood will be carefully extracted. The blood will then be placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma.
Separation of Platelet-Rich Plasma
Platelet-rich plasma is a natural component of blood that can stimulate cell repair. The restorative properties of PRP have been shown to help activate inactive hair follicles in areas where the hair has thinned. Once the platelet-rich plasma has been separated from red blood cells, it will be prepared for injection into targeted areas of the scalp.
Injection into the Scalp
Once the PRP has been successfully separated, the PRP solution will be delicately injected into areas of the scalp targeted for hair regeneration. A topical anesthetic can be applied to the treatment area before injection to minimize the potential for discomfort. After the injections, the PRP should gradually begin to help many dormant hair follicles re-activate, ultimately strengthening them and making them healthier, which can lead to thicker hair in the treatment area.
For optimal results, PRP for hair restoration is ideally suited for patients who are in the earlier stages of hair loss and hair thinning.
Is There a Recovery Process After PRP Therapy for Hair Restoration?
Most patients do not require a recovery period after PRP therapy for hair restoration. In fact, it is common for individuals to resume their normal daily routines immediately. Some soreness and a mild “sunburn” sensation can be expected after this procedure; however, these effects should dissipate fairly quickly.
When Will the PRP Results Be Noticeable?
It often takes a few months for the results of PRP for hair restoration to become noticeable. The process is gradual due to the fact that the PRP solution is designed to stimulate the inactive hair follicles into a new growth phase. While some patients may begin to see new hair growth in approximately two months, it may take at least four to six months for other individuals to experience the positive results from PRP therapy. Multiple PRP treatments may be recommended to obtain the best possible outcomes and results that can last years into the future.
