Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)

Gynecomastia is a condition where there is an abnormal amount of fat and breast tissue in the chest area of a fully-grown male. This is an extremely common problem, affecting an estimated 40 to 60 percent of all men. Gynecomastia can easily be treated with a procedure commonly called “male breast reduction.”

In male breast reduction surgery, excess fat and glandular tissue are removed from your chest area. If glandular tissue is the main source of your gynecomastia, it will be removed through a small incision on the edge of the areola. Excess fat will usually be suctioned out with a liposuction technique.

Surgery to correct gynecomastia usually takes between one and two hours. There will be some discomfort and swelling immediately following the surgery, but these side effects will dissipate fairly quickly, leaving you with a firmer, more toned chest.
