Breast Lift with Implants

For women desiring to have their breasts lifted while simultaneously restoring and/or adding volume, a combination of mastopexy and breast augmentation can often be an ideal surgical option. Often referred to as a breast lift with implants or breast augmentation with a lift, this popular treatment can comprehensively improve the size, contour, and position of the breasts for a rejuvenated appearance and feel.

At the Personal Enhancement Center, board-certified plastic surgeon Christopher P. Godek, MD and board-certified plastic surgeon Christina Pasick, MD custom-tailor each breast lift with implants procedure to create beautiful, natural-looking results that align with the aesthetic desires of the patient. Following a thorough evaluation and discussion of your unique needs and goals, our experienced plastic surgeon can formulate a surgical plan that addresses your specific concerns while helping you achieve a more proportionate and sensual figure.

What Is a Breast Lift (Mastopexy) with Implants?

Breast lift with implants procedures are designed to remove excess, inelastic breast skin, lift the breasts to a more youthful position on the chest wall, and add breast volume for a fuller appearance through the placement of breast implants. On its own, breast lift surgery (mastopexy) can correct tissue drooping and elevate the breasts for firmer, “perkier” results, but it will not increase the size of the breasts for women also seeking to add volume. Similarly, breast augmentation can enhance the size and shape of the breasts, but implants alone are not able to resolve a moderate to significant degree of tissue sagging (ptosis). Breast lift with implants, also known as “breast augmentation-mastopexy,” combines the two procedures to more comprehensively rejuvenate and enhance the breasts. This treatment can benefit many women who are considering renewing the appearance of their breasts, and can also be included in a Mommy Makeover procedure for individuals looking to address skin laxity and loss of breast volume that can occur after pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What Are the Benefits of Breast Augmentation with a Lift?

Breast augmentation with a lift can be an exceptionally rewarding procedure for women whose breasts have changed due to age, pregnancy, nursing, weight fluctuations, and a host of other factors. Depending on your specific breast enhancement goals, a breast lift with implants can help with the following concerns:

Along with these aesthetic benefits, combining mastopexy with breast implants can help improve the fit of certain articles of clothing as well as boost one’s self-image in both social and personal settings.

How Is the Breast Lift with Implants Procedure Performed?

Breast augmentation with a lift is generally performed as a single operation, though the procedure can be staged if necessary. Just like mastopexy, the incision options include the following patterns:

During the breast lift with implants procedure, our plastic surgeon will perform the incision method that was determined at the consultation and based on the extent of excess skin and tissue sagging present. Once the incision is made, extra skin is removed and breast tissue is lifted to a higher, more desirable position. If necessary, the nipple-areolar complexes are also repositioned and resized accordingly. Our doctor will then insert the preselected silicone or saline-filled implant into the breast pocket, and after ensuring an optimal shape is achieved, they will carefully pull the skin together and close the incision using tiny sutures.

Typically performed on an outpatient basis using general anesthesia, the entire breast augmentation with a lift procedure usually requires about three hours to complete. Following surgery, patients are generally able to return home under the care and supervision of a loved one.

What Is Breast Lift with Implants Recovery Like?

Recovery from a breast lift with implants can include some bruising, soreness, and swelling; however, these effects generally diminish within a week or two. Most individuals only need over-the-counter medicine to alleviate any potential discomfort that may be experienced initially, but pain medication can be prescribed if necessary.

Normal daily routines can often be resumed after approximately one week, but any strenuous activity should be avoided for a minimum of four to six weeks. Activities such as vigorous exercise, physical sports, and/or heavy lifting can inhibit proper healing and compromise final results if resumed too early, so it is important to follow postoperative instructions carefully.

Are Breast Lift with Implants Scars Noticeable?

The extent and appearance of residual scarring will ultimately depend on the technique utilized during the breast lift with implants procedure. The implants themselves can often be placed via the incisions created for the breast lift stage of the treatment, which can eliminate the need for additional incisions. Any residual scarring on the breasts tends to fade over time, especially when scar management guidelines are strictly adhered to. No matter which incision technique was employed, scarring can generally be concealed by virtually all blouse, bra, and swimsuit varieties.

What Are the Risks of a Breast Lift with Implants?

Any kind of surgery involves some degree of risk, and breast lift with implants procedures are no exception. With that in mind, our plastic surgeons are extensively trained and experienced in breast surgery and utilize techniques and approaches designed to minimize risks as much as possible. Potential, though rare, risks of complications from this procedure include excessive bleeding, infection, negative reaction to anesthesia, a minor level of asymmetry among the breasts, and a widening of residual scars as time passes. Our plastic surgeon will go over all of the risks associated with breast augmentation-mastopexy with you during the initial consultation and answer any questions you may have. Again, our doctor will take all necessary precautions to reduce the chances of complications and to provide a successful procedure and beautiful outcome.
