Mommy Makeover

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

While having kids is one of the greatest gifts life can bring, pregnancy and raising children can cause a number of physical changes that many find difficult to reverse with traditional diet and exercise. Some of the most common changes women experience after pregnancy and/or breastfeeding include a loss of breast volume, excess skin and “sagginess” in the breasts, stretch marks, fat deposits in specific areas, a loss of abdominal tone, and more.

Fortunately, a Mommy Makeover from our board-certified plastic surgeons can effectively address most post-pregnancy aesthetic concerns and beautifully rejuvenate your appearance. Depending on your specific needs and desires, Dr. Christopher Godek and Dr. Christina Pasick can combine a number of procedures into one customized Mommy Makeover, helping you improve your overall appearance and restore confidence in the way you look.

To learn more about Mommy Makeovers, we invite you to read through the information provided below, or simply contact the Personal Enhancement Center to schedule a consultation. One of our experienced plastic surgeons will be more than happy to meet with you to develop a treatment plan that can help you achieve your goals.

What Does a Mommy Makeover Consist Of?

To determine the best treatment strategy for your Mommy Makeover, our doctor will evaluate your aesthetic concerns, discuss your overall goals, and assess your health and medical history during an initial consultation. Some of the most common procedures patients select as part of their Mommy Makeover include:

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is an excellent option for women interested in enhancing the size, shape, and/or symmetry of the breasts, as well as for those simply wishing to restore lost breast volume caused by pregnancy and breastfeeding. At our practice, our doctors can perform breast augmentation using breast implants or a patient’s own fat.

Breast Lift

The physical effects of breastfeeding and weight fluctuations often associated with pregnancy may leave the breasts with a sagging or drooping appearance. A breast lift—or mastopexy—is designed to reduce excess skin, elevate the breasts on the chest wall, and reposition the nipples to achieve a perkier, more youthful breast aesthetic.

Breast Reduction

Some women find the large size of their breasts to be inconvenient or even painful after pregnancy and breastfeeding. A breast reduction can remove excess breast tissue for a more balanced, proportionate figure, effectively resolving the physical and/or emotional discomfort of overly large breasts.

Tummy Tuck

Also known as abdominoplasty, tummy tuck surgery is designed to remove excess or hanging skin from the lower abdomen. In addition—and particularly for women who have had children—a tummy tuck can repair stretched or torn abdominal muscles for a flatter, more toned stomach.

Liposuction

Many mothers notice accumulations of stubborn fat that remain resistant to diet and exercise following pregnancy. With liposuction, isolated pockets of fatty tissue can be removed from nearly any area of the body for a slimmer, more sculpted physique.

How Is the Mommy Makeover Procedure Performed?

Mommy Makeovers can be performed as a combination of procedures in one operation, or as a series of treatments staged over several months. The specific operative plan will be determined at the time of the consultation based on your needs and goals, as well as which approach can yield the best results while maximizing safety.

One of the chief benefits of having your treatment at the Personal Enhancement Center is our on-site medical spa and concierge service options. We make it part of our overall mission to give you exemplary care before, during, and after your procedure so that you are as relaxed and “pampered” as possible. Plus, our medical spa offers a number of exceptional skin care options and other services—such as scar management and massage therapy—aimed at giving you a more expeditious and pleasant recovery while helping you maintain the health and beauty of your skin.

What Is Recovery from a Mommy Makeover Like?

Recovery time after a Mommy Makeover will vary depending upon the combination of procedures chosen as well as how many treatments are performed at once. In general, the majority of women feel comfortable resuming office jobs and other non-strenuous activities after about one to two weeks—similar to when tummy tuck and breast procedures are performed individually. That said, we typically recommend that patients avoid any heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for about six weeks to ensure each treatment area heals fully. It is important to note that this includes lifting children during the initial stages of recovery, so patients will likely need assistance around the house if their kids are still young. At the end of your initial consultation, Dr. Godek or Dr. Pasick can provide you with more specific, detailed recovery information tailored to your unique treatment plan.

Will I Have Noticeable Mommy Makeover Scars?

Our plastic surgeon will plan each Mommy Makeover in a way that can help ensure any potential scarring is as minimal and discreet as possible. Tummy tuck incisions can be placed low between the hips, allowing the scar to be hidden by most underwear and swimsuit varieties. Breast surgery incisions vary depending upon the procedure but can mostly be concealed by bras, bikini tops, and/or natural features of the breasts. Liposuction generally requires only a small incision at the surgical site, so scarring is usually very minimal. In the end, the appearance of Mommy Makeover scars should fade over time, and most of our patients find the results of the procedure far outweigh concerns over residual scarring.
