Brazilian Butt Lift

A Brazilian butt lift is a cosmetic procedure designed to enhance the size, contour, and proportion of the buttocks using one’s own fat tissue. Considered a “natural” alternative to gluteal implants—which have traditionally been utilized for buttock enhancement and augmentation—this innovative procedure involves extracting excess fatty tissue from one (or multiple) area(s) of the body and reinjecting it into the buttocks to create a shapelier, more prominent appearance.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Christopher P. Godek, MD and board-certified plastic surgeon Christina Pasick, MD are highly experienced in performing Brazilian butt lifts for both women and men, and the level of customization afforded by the fat transfer process enables our doctors to achieve exceptional, natural-looking results. What Are the Benefits of a Brazilian Butt Lift?

A Brazilian butt lift offers numerous benefits to individuals who are unhappy with the look of their backside. Depending on your unique aesthetic desires, this procedure can be custom-tailored to help:

Along with these benefits, a Brazilian butt lift offers the unique advantage of body contouring in donor regions of the body. To obtain the fat used for transfer, liposuction is performed in areas containing excess fatty tissue—most commonly the abdomen, hips, back, and/or thighs. By strategically removing fat cells from one or more of these locations, our plastic surgeons can sculpt and tone donor areas for an improved body contour.

How Is a Brazilian Butt Lift Performed?

To begin the Brazilian butt lift treatment, our doctor will first utilize liposuction to remove excess fatty tissue from the area(s) of the body that were identified and agreed upon at the time of the consultation. Once a sufficient quantity is obtained, the fat will be filtered, cleansed, and carefully reinjected into the buttocks in strategic locations until the desired volume and contour is achieved.

Accounting for the fact that about 30–40 percent of fat cells will be reabsorbed by the body after transfer, our plastic surgeon usually injects extra fatty tissue into the buttocks to help ensure an optimal final outcome. The fat that is not reabsorbed takes root and attaches to a blood supply in the buttocks, effectively becoming a permanent addition for long-lasting results.

The entire Brazilian butt lift procedure takes approximately two hours to complete, though this may vary based on the extent of each individual’s needs and goals. As an outpatient treatment, patients are usually able to return home later the same day under the care of a loved one.

What Is Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery Like?

Following a Brazilian butt lift, some degree of swelling, bruising, and/or soreness in the buttocks and donor region(s) can be expected. These symptoms are temporary and should gradually dissipate over time. A notable amount of pain is uncommon, but any postoperative discomfort experienced can be managed with analgesic medication.

Patients are typically advised to avoid sitting directly on their backside for about three weeks, as applying concentrated pressure on the buttocks during the early stages of healing may negatively affect the outcome of treatment. To assist with this inconvenience, special cushions and/or modified chairs can often be used throughout this time.

The majority of women and men feel comfortable enough to resume normal daily routines and non-strenuous work after approximately one week. That being said, any heavy lifting, vigorous exercise, or activities that may place strain on the buttocks should be abstained from for at least three to four weeks.

How Long Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Last?

While the results of a Brazilian butt lift can last for decades when the procedure is performed by a highly qualified plastic surgeon, patients can increase the potential for long-lasting results by strictly adhering to the rules for aftercare. The transferred fat will be very delicate, so it is imperative that you follow post-operative instructions that can reduce the risk of hindering the newly-contoured effects. Additionally, because significant weight gain or loss may alter the results of a Brazilian butt lift, we recommend that you maintain a healthy weight and try to limit excessive weight fluctuations following surgery.

Will There Be Scars from a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Generally speaking, scarring made during the liposuction component of this surgery is very minimal. Our surgeons always strive to place any incisions in inconspicuous places, and the incisions themselves are typically quite small. Heavy scarring is unlikely, and any scars that do appear should fade to some extent in the months and years following surgery.

How Much Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Cost?

Because we customize each Brazilian butt lift treatment to meet our patients’ needs, the cost is contingent upon a number of factors, such as:

Your surgeon will meet with you for a consultation before moving forward with treatment. During this discussion, we will determine the price for your Brazilian butt lift and answer any other questions pertaining to the surgery.
