Thigh Lift
Thigh lift surgery is a popular body contouring procedure designed to eliminate excess skin and fat in the inner and/or outer thighs for a tightened, more toned appearance. Whether caused by significant weight loss, genetics, or simply the process of aging, these aesthetic concerns are often immune to even the most stringent of diets and exercise routines. By customizing a thigh lift treatment to meet your individual needs, New Jersey plastic surgeon Christopher P. Godek, MD and Dr. Christina Pasick can help you achieve a slimmer, more athletic contour in the legs with exceptionally natural-looking results.
What Are the Benefits of a Thigh Lift?
Many women and men seeking to address an accumulation of loose skin and stubborn fat in the upper legs find thigh lift surgery to be an excellent solution. In addition to creating leaner, shapelier legs, key benefits of this procedure may include:
- A better fit for certain styles of pants, shorts, or other articles of clothing
- Less friction between the thighs
- Reduced irritation and/or rashes often caused by skin folds
- Enhanced comfort when exercising or participating in physical activities
- Improved self-confidence and self-esteem
Additionally, for those who have successfully lost a substantial amount of weight through bariatric surgery and/or diet and exercise, thigh lift surgery can help complete one’s transformation to reveal the body they worked hard to achieve.
How Is Thigh Lift Surgery Performed?
All thigh lifts performed by our plastic surgeons are personalized based on the unique needs and goals of the patient. During the procedure, loose, excess skin throughout the thigh region is carefully removed, and the remaining skin is pulled taut and reattached for a smoother appearance. When localized buildups of fatty tissue are also present, our doctor will use liposuction to strategically contour the thighs until an optimal shape is achieved prior to closing the incision sites. Conducted under general anesthesia, thigh lift surgery can usually be completed in about two hours, though this may vary if treatment is being combined with other procedures as part of a body lift. When performed on its own, most patients are able to return home later the same day with the help of a friend or family member.
What Is Thigh Lift Recovery Like?
Immediately following thigh lift surgery, a compression garment is typically placed to aid in the healing process and help ensure an ideal outcome. There will likely be some degree of swelling and bruising present initially, though these symptoms are temporary and should resolve with time. While a significant amount of pain is rare, any discomfort or soreness that may be experienced can often be alleviated with medication. Most patients are able to resume office jobs, school, running errands, and other non-strenuous activities after approximately one week, but all strenuous actions—such as heavy lifting, vigorous exercise, physical sports, etc.—will generally need to be avoided for at least four weeks.
