What Is Micro-Needling?

Micro-needling is a treatment designed to help the skin repair itself in specific areas that are exhibiting signs of common skin conditions. A small device, typically about the size of a pen, is guided over the treatment area to create tiny perforations in the skin. These “micro-channels” aid in the production of collagen and other natural properties that can ultimately help the skin renew itself from the inside out. There are a variety of micro-needling techniques that offer a range of benefits, including improvement in the skin’s tone and texture, reduction in signs of age, reduction in the appearance of mild scarring from acne or traumatic injury, and overall enhancement and rejuvenation of the skin.

Micro-Needling with SkinPen™ by Bellus Medical

At the Personal Enhancement Center, micro-needling with SkinPen™ by Bellus Medical can be performed on the face, neck, arms, hands, back, stomach, and legs. During the procedure, a topical Hyaluronic Acid (HA) will be applied to and absorbed by the skin as the SkinPen™ is gently guided over the targeted treatment area. Once absorbed, this HA solution will penetrate deep into the skin and help to promote collagen and elastin production.

The micro-needling procedure typically takes approximately 30 minutes to complete, though this will often depend on the number of areas you wish to address. You should generally begin to notice subtle signs of improvement in the tone and texture of your skin a few days after treatment, and these results will often continue to improve in the following weeks as more collagen is produced. Ultimately, micro-needling with the SkinPen™ by Bellus Medical can help you achieve smoother, more radiant-looking skin.

Micro-Needling with EndyMed Intensif^®

The EndyMed Intensif^® RF technique takes micro-needling one step further by introducing a radiofrequency component to the procedure. This innovative treatment utilizes the same basic approach as traditional micro-needling, but adds radiofrequency energy deep within the skin to help stimulate collagen and elastin. EndyMed Intensif^® can address a number of skin concerns, including signs of wrinkles, traumatic scarring, and acne, to produce healthier, smoother, and more vibrant-looking skin. This micro-needling technique is also known to create long-lasting results after just a single treatment. EndyMed Intensif^® can be particularly beneficial for dermal renewal in the face and neck.

What Micro-Needling Aftercare is Recommended?

While the specifics of recovery from micro-needling will depend on the extent of treatment and other factors related to the customized treatment plan, most individuals are able to return to their normal daily activities immediately following the procedure. Some degree of redness (akin to a mild sunburn), as well as dryness and peeling, are normal side effects of this treatment, and should dissipate after a few days. Patients are advised to keep the area protected from the sun and irritants for a few weeks after treatment. A member of our skin care team will provide you with recommendations on helpful cleansers, creams, and sunscreens that can be used on the treatment area after the procedure.

What Results Can I Expect from Micro-Needling?

Most patients will start noticing improvement in the skin within two to four weeks. The results should become more and more apparent over the next three months while new production of elastin and collagen continue to replenish the skin.
