Our Comprehensive Approach to Plastic Surgery: Part II

In the previous installment of this blog series, I overviewed the process leading up to your consultation. Read “Our Comprehensive Approach to Plastic Surgery: Part I” to catch up.

Our Unique Consultation Process

On the day you arrive for your consultation, you will be greeted by the same patient coordinator who spoke with you on the phone. We have a philosophy here that we want to be the Ritz Carlton or the Four Seasons of plastic surgery, if you will. When you come in, we want to convey that five star environment and we want you to feel right at home. Once you’ve entered, a coordinator or nurse will lead you to an examination room where you will review your medical history and revisit your specific concerns and reasons for seeking plastic surgery.

Following the nurse’s visit, I will enter the examination room to introduce myself as your plastic surgeon and get to know you by discussing your medical history and what you wish to achieve from cosmetic surgery. I will then complete a full physical examination and take some photographs using our VECTRA® 3D imaging system and standard, two-dimensional digital cameras. I will then go through the whole process of the procedure with you. We’ll discuss what the night before surgery is like and how to prepare for it (mostly it’s just taking it easy, resting, and not eating or drinking anything after midnight). I’ll then describe what to expect on the morning of surgery, estimate about how long the surgery will take, and paint a general picture about what the recovery process is going to be like.

Once you have a clear idea of the entire process, the final step of this initial consultation is to meet with the patient coordinator once again to discuss the fees of the procedure or any financing plans that may interest you. At this time, the coordinator can help you make an appointment if you would like to proceed with surgery.

So to recap, in one visit – which takes about an hour – we will do everything from meet each other, go through your medical history, conduct a physical exam, take photographs and digital images so you know what we may be able to achieve, tell you all about the experience and what to expect afterwards, and even talk to you about the potential risks of surgery.
