Liposuction or Tummy Tuck: Which is More Appropriate for Me?
Are you considering plastic surgery to restore a more toned, youthful-looking appearance to your midsection but don’t know if liposuction or tummy tuck surgery is right for your unique needs and desires? While these aesthetic treatment options both work to contour the abdominal region for a rejuvenated aesthetic, the two procedures are designed to address very separate concerns. Consequently, the answer to this inquiry will depend on the specific issue(s) you wish to target.
If your concerns are limited only to localized buildups of diet and exercise-resistant fat in or around the stomach area, liposuction may be the most appropriate option as it is intended to remove stubborn fat from different regions of the body. At my practice, we offer traditional liposuction, VASER LipoSelection®, and HydraSolve™, the latter of which is a less invasive fat removal method designed to liquefy fat for a gentler, more efficient extraction and quicker recovery period.
Should your aesthetic concerns include loose, excess skin and/or stretched muscles of the abdominal wall (with or without the accumulation of fatty tissue), a tummy tuck may be the right treatment for you. Also known as abdominoplasty, this body sculpting procedure can be conducted to excise loose, redundant skin and tighten abdominal muscles that were stretched by pregnancy and/or certain lifestyle habits. In addition, tummy tuck surgery can also be paired with some degree of liposuction when necessary to achieve ideal results.
Ultimately, liposuction and abdominoplasty can each be exceptionally beneficial for the right candidates, and the most effective procedure for your specific needs and desires can be selected following a comprehensive consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon.
