Eyelid Surgery

As we age, the delicate skin around our eyes naturally begins to droop and sag, which may cause one to appear tired or upset. Sagging upper eyelids can even contribute to problems with your vision. Using a technique known as blepharoplasty, the experienced plastic surgeon at our office in New Jersey, Dr. Christopher Godek, can turn back the hands of time and restore a youthful appearance to the area around your eyes.

Eyelid Surgery – Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery, generally known as blepharoplasty, is a common procedure here at our practice. Many patients have turned to the Personal Enhancement Center to enhance their eyelids and diminish the appearance of wrinkles and bags under the eyes.

During the blepharoplasty procedure, Dr. Godek will make a few small incisions, strategically placed in the upper eyelid creases or the inside of the eyelid, depending on the type of procedure. Next, excess fat and loose skin will be removed from the area, and the remaining skin will be smoothed out. The incision will then be closed via a suture that will stay in place for a few days to allow for proper healing. Our surgeon works diligently to minimize visible scarring – in fact, because of the placement of the incisions, residual scarring from eyelid surgery is typically barely noticeable, if noticeable at all.

The blepharoplasty procedure usually takes one to two hours depending on the complexity of the procedure. During the consultation, you and Dr. Godek will define a surgical plan to determine your cosmetic concerns with your eyelids, in addition to discussing the surgical process and recovery time needed.

After Your Eyelid Lift Procedure

Healing time after blepharoplasty is usually about one to two weeks. Swelling and bruising are common side effects, though they normally dissipate within a week. Again, healing time will depend on the type of surgery performed, whether it involved upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both.

After the blepharoplasty procedure is completed at our New Jersey office, your eyes should look much younger, fresher, and more alert. If you have had upper eyelid surgery, you may even experience improved vision since any overhanging skin over the eyes will be smoothed out and refreshed.
