Taking into account the patient’s skin tone and the shade of her other nipple, our team will first mix several ink pigments to achieve as close a color match as possible. (In the event that the patient has undergone a double mastectomy and reconstruction, we will use pre-operative photos as a guide to formulate the correct ink color.) Once the ink is mixed to the proper pigment, we will carefully tattoo the skin in the targeted area until the appearance of a realistic nipple and areola is achieved.
It is important to note that multiple treatment sessions may be needed to create both the most precise color-match and longevity of results. Additionally, while nipple tattooing on its own can help restore a natural-looking nipple-areolar complex for many patients, the results may not be as realistic-appearing as those achieved via a combination of surgical nipple reconstruction and nipple tattooing.
